Bay County, Fla. -

Dr. Hatem Mourad from Coastal Urgent Care and Family Medicine says, "All forms of the flu are caused by viruses."

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose

There are some things you can do to protect yourself from the flu.  Dr. Mourad recommends washing your hands often with soap and water, using alcohol hand rubs, staying away from people who are sick, and getting a flu shot.

Dr. Mourad says if you get the flu stay home, rest, drink plenty of fluids and take Tylenol for the fever and aches.

If you have difficulty breathing, feel pain or pressure in your chest or belly, get dizzy, feel confused or have severe vomiting, see the doctor.

Dr. Mourad also advises that if you go to the doctor while you have the flu, let the office staff know immediately so they can place you in an area where you are less likely to spread the infection.
