Thanksgiving on a Budget

Posted: Updated:

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and sometimes trying to get everything for your family meal can be expensive, but not when you're an extreme couponer.

"I save thousands of dollars literally every year", said Vonda Gainer, a self proclaimed extreme couponer, who calls herself the "Qpon Qween."

In a visit to Publix Friday News 13 tagged along to see how she does Thanksgiving on a budget.

"Publix does not require you to spend a minimum of $35 to purchase a turkey for $.59 a pound, and at this time probably more important than ever it's very important to cut cost wherever we can", Gainer said.

Gainer says in these tough times saving money during the holidays is more important than ever. A sentiment fellow shopper Linda Jones shares, "I'm learning to buy just what I need or just buy one get one."

The Qpon Qween says Publix is coupon friendly, "They have a very liberal coupon policy, they love couponers. Publix is also the only grocery store that accepts competitor's coupons; no other store accepts competitor's coupons."

"I've gone to the paper got my coupons and I learned this morning that I could use other coupons from places like Winn Dixie", said Jones.

When asked where to find the best competitors coupons Gainer says it's something most of us use everyday, Facebook.
