A plan that's been in the works for a few years now may finally come to fruition in Panama City Beach.
At their most recent meeting, planning officials gave a developer the ok to bring a wake boarding park to the beach. Preliminary plans call for a five acre pond on the property located between the Wicked Wheel and Applebee's on Hutchinson Boulevard.
Once the site plan and development order are approved developers say construction can begin. Andy Gonsalves spoke to us on behalf of the applicant; Sun South Bank based out of Dothan and says this is a prime opportunity for them to work with the city to redevelop the area.
"We have condos, we have hotels we have restaurants, we have shops and the one thing that we are lacking is true entertainment. And we feel that once something of this magnitude comes, others will follow." Gonsalves says.
According to Gonsalves, the city's CRA has explored plans that would alleviate storm water run off issues near Lake Flora and says they're in line with his vision. The CRA says they have not been able to obtain grants for the project, but says they're constantly looking for funding sources.
