"We got winning numbers here?," asks one of the sales clerk at Dodge's Chicken in Panama City.
Everyone is hoping their pink ticket is going to be the lucky one; especially with a record breaking Powerball jackpot that continues to rise.
"It's so huge, the amount, it's so huge," says Victor Randall as he describes the $500 million Powerball jackpot. He never plays the lottery, but with half a billion dollars at stake, he's giving it a try.
Another customer who was on her way back home from Panama City Tuesday, Jennifer Guy, also never plays but decided it was worth a shot. "Somebody's gotta win, might as well be me!," says Guy.
This jackpot is a record one, topping the $365 million Powerball in 2006. However, your chances of winning the jackpot is 1 in 175,000,000. In fact, one has a greater chance of getting struck by lightning than having the winning numbers. You also have a better chance at walking the red carpet and winning an Academy Award.
Although steep, this jackpot isn't the largest yet. A Mega Millions' $656 million win earlier this year is the biggest. However, the more people continue to buy tickets, the heavier the pot is going to be.
The Powerball drawing is Wednesday night.
