Area Kids Enjoy a Day With Santa

Posted: Updated:

Some area students got to enjoy a special lunch on Wednesday with a very special guest.

Along with making arts & crafts kids received lunch by Chic-fil-a and a bag of Christmas gifts from wish lists that they made earlier this year. After opening their gifts they got to meet Santa himself.

The entire event is organized by the Rescue Mission of Bay County and funded by Innovations Credit Union, as well as contributions from Gulf Coast State College and Publix. They target specific children who may not have the opportunity of a Christmas at home due to man different reasons. Volunteers say they are hoping to make a difference in a child's life.

"Personally it's preventative to me. If we can keep kids excited and full of hope then the world of drugs and crime and all that has a harder time of getting them. And so we wanna do some preventative stuff by just loving these kids when they're little and just giving them the best opportunities we can," says Rev. Billy Fox.

Those gifts and food were provided for nearly 100 children.
