The Bay County Fire Department and Springfield Fire Department responded to the house on North East Avenue after receiving reports of heavy smoke in the area.
About half of the structure was destroyed in the blaze, but a fire captain says a quick response prevented the fire from causing a lot more damage.
"Anytime you get into an enclosed area like that you know there's an opportunity for fire to travel," said Bay County Fire Captain Billy Rich. "Mainly upwards, and that was our concern. We didn't want it to get into the attic and travel through the rest of the house.
"Fire crews got in there pretty quick. I'd say less than twenty minutes they were making pretty good headway on it."
No one was injured in this morning's incident.
The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
