Dr. Hatem Mourad from Coastal Urgent Care and Family Medicine says a skin infection is going around known as cellulitis.

He says it's caused by staph or strep bacteria.  Dr. Mourad says when there is a break in the skin, the bacteria can "enter the skin and grow, causing infection and swelling."

Cellulitis is common on the legs, arms. It can also develop around the eye, abdominal wall, or in and around the mouth.

Dr. Mourad says symptoms include: pain, tenderness, swelling, warmth, and redness.  He says itching is *not* a typical symptom.

Dr. Mourad says proper treatment is crucial. If you suspect you have an infection of the skin, see your healthcare provider.
