Woman Charged with Retail Theft from Best Buy

The Panama City Police Department is investigating a shoplifting case where approximately $3,000.00 worth of merchandise was stolen over the course of the past two days from Best Buy, located at 1000 E. 23rd Street in Panama City.

Best Buy loss prevention employees discovered empty packages of electronic merchandise in the female restroom on 12/20/2012. The incident was reported to the Panama City Police Department after the employees reviewed the surveillance video.

On 12/21/2012, at approximately 10:30 am, the employees noticed the same suspect returned to the store and she took more electronic merchandise into the restroom and exited without the items. The employees again discovered merchandise packaging in the restroom.

The suspect was identified by employees and detained by officers outside the store. Some of the merchandise stolen today was recovered inside a vehicle and a purse the suspect was carrying.

Detectives have charged Stephanie E. Hutchinson, 37 years of age, with Grand Theft-Retail. Hutchinson listed a Panama City area address and was later booked into the Bay County Jail. This case remains under investigation and more arrests and charges are expected.
