A DeFuniak Springs man is in jail on weapons charges after barricading himself inside his house and threatening law enforcement officers. The incident happened just after 11:30 Sunday morning at 441 Bear Head Road in Walton County.
According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Stephen Dewayne Kelly called 911 claiming to have shot himself and threatening to shoot anyone who came to his house.
A dispatcher convinced Kelly to come outside after deputies arrived at the scene, where he allegedly threatened to shoot officers, the WCSO said. When he tried to reenter the house, Kelly was subdued by deputies. Investigators discovered Kelly had not shot himself but had fired a shotgun inside the residence.
Kelly, 43, has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, improper exhibition of a firearm, using a firearm under the influence of alcohol, possession of a firearm by a felon, and resisting an officer without violence.
