Bay High school graduate Cori Shepherd Stern recently became an Oscar nominee with the nod of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for the documentary film Open Heart. The film is about eight children that travel from Rwanda to Sudan to receive heart surgery because of a heart condition caused by untreated cases of strep throat. "Being with the parents when they saw their kids and one little girl held her shirt up and showed her papa the scar that was good to see because she had survived but you know these are really scary surgeries," Producer Stern said. Open Heart will be released on January 15, 2013. For more information on Open Heart and Cori Shepherd Stern click on the following link: http://openheartfilm.com/.
