Tornado Fatalities Hit A Record Low

Posted: Updated:

In northwest Florida tornadoes can strike at anytime of the year.  From coast to coast, tornadoes spin up, sometimes causing death and costly paths of destruction.  According to the Storm Prediction Center, the last tornado related fatality in the United States occurred on June 24, 2012 in Highlands County Florida. The tornado was spawned by Tropical Storm Debbie which brought over 7 inches of rain to parts of the Florida panhandle.  Vicki Dortch and Jason Hicks from Verizon Wireless say most of their customers appreciate the weather alerts they receive on their smartphones.  "I know one time we had a thunderstorm coming through and every phone in the store went off at the same time so it's definitely pretty accurate as well," Hicks said.
