On Saturday, Mr. Surf's threw their 3rd Annual Coldwater Classic, a surf competition with five different divisions, including longboard and stand-up paddle surfing. Many people came to witness the competition, which lasted into the afternoon, and Mr. Surf's owner Tony Johnson said he's not surprised the respect for the sport is growing.
"More and more people are discovering our beaches. They're discovering we have some really fun surf here," says Johnson. "What makes the aura about Panama City Beach is our sands, our people and everything else, and it adds all to the flavor. We might not have waves like Hawaii, we might not have waves like California, but we definitely have one of the best places paradise can offer."
Tournament entry fees were donated to Panama City's Anchorage Children's Home.
