Marianna Man Held on Multiple Charges After High-Speed Chase

Posted: Updated:

On January 23, 2013 at approximately 1535 hours Officers with the Marianna Police Department attempted to stop a Chevy four door passenger vehicle black in color with an expired license plate.

The vehicle circled the parking lot of Zaxby's restaurant and then took off headed east bound on Highway 90. The vehicle then began to accelerate in speed and made an improper left turn onto Smith Street. The vehicle then proceeded to accelerate and dangerously drove through the intersection of Smith Street and Kelson Avenue, with a wanton disregard for the safety of others, almost striking a vehicle in the process.

After traveling through the intersection of Smith Street and Kelson Avenue the vehicle continued to travel north bound on Carters Mill Road at a high rate of speed with a wanton disregard for the safety of the bystanders in the area as well as other vehicles on the roadway. The vehicle caused a motorist to veer off the roadway to avoid being hit as it drove between two vehicles passing in a no passing zone. The vehicle then continued on a right curve and lost control at a high rate of speed striking a telephone pole and coming to a rest on the roadway in an inoperable manner.

Officers approached the single occupied vehicle driven by Jarrod Demond Brown, who is a habitual traffic offender. Brown was placed under arrest. During the search of Brown's person a brown pill bottle was located in Brown's left front pocket containing a controlled substance.

  • Arrestee: Jarrod Demond Brown
  • Charges: Aggravated Feeling or Eluding, Driving While License Revoked (Habitual Traffic Offender), Possession of Control Substance
