Gulf County Wildfire Could Cause Road Closures

Posted: Updated:

The Gulf County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) anticipates the possibility of road closures on State Road 71 from County Road 381 (Dalkeith Road) to County Road 387 (Howard Creek Road) due to heavy smoke from Friday's forest fire.

Residents in the areas of Five Acre Farms, Burgess Creek, Dalkeith, Bryant's Landing, Douglas Landing, and Willis Landing may also encounter sporadic road closures on County Road 381-A (Lower Dalkeith Road) and portions of the Dalkeith Road near SR 71.

In the event of the closure of SR 71, vehicle traffic between Wewahitchka and Port St. Joe will need to take the alternate route on County Road 386 (Overstreet Road) to and from U.S. Highway 98.

The GCSO, Florida Highway Patrol, and the Florida Forest Service will be monitoring the driving conditions throughout the day and into the night.
