Nearly four decades after the Vietnam War ended, and four years of planning a plaque honoring veterans of the conflict is now on display in a Panama City park.
Friends and family of the veterans gathered the Oaks By The Bay Park, to dedicate this plaque honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the Vietnam war. Guest speaker Norma Jean Butler served as a nurse, and told how fate intervened just before an ill fated flight.
"We were supposed to be together on that flight, and I was taken off for unknown reason.... that means that I have a purpose, why wasn't I on that plane so I would have been killed too", says Butler.
Butler says she can still see that plane at the end of the run way where it crashed. Her colleague was one of only eight US women who died in the Vietnam War.
