Springfield Police announce the arrest of Michael Shaun Barfield, 29, of 918 Helen Avenue in Springfield for two burglaries at Emerald Coast Coin Laundry, located at 3900 E. 11th Street.
During the first burglary on January 24th, a white male smashed a front window to the business during the early morning hours. Once inside, the male now identified as Barfield, stole a quantity of cigarettes and scratch-off lottery tickets. Within a couple of hours, winning tickets from the stolen batch of tickets were cashed it or attempted to be cashed in multiple convenience stores in the Springfield - Callaway area.
During the late night hours of January 27th, officers responded to an alarm at the business, only to find that the power breakers had been turned off and a rear door forcibly breached. Again, a white male had entered the store and stole a quantity of cigarettes, lighters and scratch-off lottery tickets.
Barfield was developed as a suspect and during service of a search warrant at his resident, a large quantity of cigarettes, lighters and lottery tickets were recovered. Also recovered was some of the clothing believed worn during the burglaries.
Additionally, during the search of the residence, cocaine and drug paraphernalia was discovered, leading to the drug charge on Barfield as well as his girlfriend/roommate Shelia Kaye Toole, 42.
Charges against Barfield as of now include burglary, two counts; grand theft, two counts; criminal mischief, two counts and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Charges against Toole as of now include possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
