The largest elementary school in Bay County is about to get its first playground. Breakfast Point Academy held a check presentation ceremony Tuesday morning to recognize the community support in raising the money.
The school has been working to find the funds to build a playground for the students since it's opening. The district agreed to match up 25 thousand dollars to help pay.
The PTO successfully raised 10 thousand dollars on it's own. It was a community organization, however, that helped them reach the goal. The Gulf Coast Triathlon presented the school with a check for 15 thousand dollars. With a 25 thousand dollar match by the District, the new playground or "Ray-Ground" will be possible. And it's a design the students themselves chose.
"We had three renditions and put it out to the roughly 1,200 students here, and the students voted on which one they wanted," says School Board Member Steve Moss. "It was really neat to have some buy-in from the students. That had a big role in deciding what playground they are going to have."
The equipment for the installation should be delivered on Wednesday.
