On Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at about 4:55pm, Investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a gray in color Toyota pickup on Interstate 10 eastbound about the 147-mile marker. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tommy Jake Jackson, 21, of Grand Ridge, Florida and his passenger Ritchie Dustin Cooper, 21, of Sneads, Florida.
During the traffic stop, a Jackson County Sheriff's Office narcotics detection canine was deployed on the vehicle for an open-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. The canine alerted to the odor of narcotics emitting from the vehicle and it was searched.
During the search of the vehicle approximatley 3 grams of methamphetamine and approximatley 1 ounce of marijuana were located. Also located were straws and a smoking pipe consistent with the use of methamphetamine. Digital scales and plastic bags commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics were also located.
Two boxes of pseudoephedrine-containing sinus medication were located within the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop and investigation its was determined that the pseudoephedrine was purchased with the intention of it being utilized to manufacture more methamphetamine.
Tommy Jake Jackson was placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ritchie Dustin Cooper was placed under arrest for Possession of Listed Chemicals. Both were transported to and housed in the Jackson County Jail to await First Appearance on their respective charges.
