Haney Hosts Welding Competition

Posted: Updated:

Haney Technical Center is hosting a region-wide welding event in the Skills USA competition.

There is high school and post secondary division to compete in three categories, which include, basic welding, welding fabrication, and welding sculpture. The competition is region-wide with schools from Quincy all the way to Pensacola.

Eric Johnson, a welding instructor at Haney, says this is a skill that is greatly needed in our workforce.

"There is approximately 400 thousand person shortage of welders. It is a good lucrative paying profession. I could literally put a 100 people a month to work if I could get them trained," says Johnson.

The first place winners from this competition will go to the state competition in April.
