Representatives of the Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership, Inc. announced today that they are submitting a permit application for use of the St. Andrews Marina for the Farmer's Market. In addition, they are in the process of developing a partnership arrangement with the Panama City Community Re-Development Agency (CRA) and the City of Panama City in an effort to open the St. Andrews Farmer's market under new management on March 2, 2013.
Chris Godwin, President of the St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership Board stated "Our board met recently and agreed to pursue a 90 day action plan that would allow us to pursue opening of the market quickly.
"This includes a permit request to the City that (if granted) would allow the market to take place each Saturday at the St. Andrews Marina through mid December."
She further stated that she is "pleased that the CRA and the City have pledged their full cooperation in this effort and the Partnership is very hopeful that the vendors and the community will return to the market soon."
Godwin stated "The market is about what is best for the community of St. Andrews and our Board has always desired to make this event open, friendly and family oriented." She also expressed her appreciation to Commissioner Mike Nichols' support in this process.
Should the City Commission grant the permit requested by the Partnership, plans are being made to open the Market on March 2 under new management. Rob Rosner, St. Andrew Project Manager stated that "Our joint 90 day plan will jump start the market operations and is merely moving the market back to more of its original roots. The market was started in 2004 by the St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership in cooperation with the CRA staff. This activity is also authorized under out CRA plan.
"The main difference today is we will work to build a strong community based partnership with a more sustainable model. Our plan is to return the market operations back under the umbrella of the Partnership Board."
Vendors who wish to participate in the Market should contact the St. Andrews CRA office at 872-7208. An application and all documentation will also be made available through the St. Andrews web site at www.historicstandrews.com/market
