Alcohol to be Allowed at Panama City City Parks for Special Events

Commissioner John Kady brought his request before the board at Tuesday night commission meeting about the consumption of alcohol at city parks.  He asked the commission and city administrators to look into the ordinances that deal with this issue.

This came after several requests from citizens wanting toasts or limited alcohol consumption at their weddings and other events.

After some clarification from city manager Jeff Brown, it was clear that the newest ordinance, Chapter 17 section of the code, allowed such practices as long as a permit for alcohol liability insurance was obtained from the city.

"Well, its my understanding that staffs believe it is permitted," said Kady. "So, they are going to work administratively to clarify it. But, they will be accepting requests for folks that are having those types of events in the parks. So, I'm looking forward to that.

Mayor Greg Brudnicki says he does not mind accepting the terms as long as alcohol is not used excessively at the parks. Residents can immediately start submitting requests for permits at city hall.
