The City of Panama City is officially welcoming it's newly badged police chief. The decision came down to two candidates, and City Manager Ken Hammons named acting chief Scott Ervin as Chief of Police.
Hammons says while the decision was a tough one, he is proud to offer the position to Ervin. "Scott [Ervin] has done a good job here. He deserves a chance to be the chief. I'm proud to offer that to him," says Hammons.
Hammons announced his decision Friday afternoon at the Department. Ervin has been with the PCPD for 14 years, and has completed both his bachelors and masters while working with the agency. Working his way up the ranks, Ervin has held positions ranging from patrol to investigations to supervisory roles. Ervin says he is honored and excited to take on this status.
"Fantastic. It's just a validation of years of hard work, perseverance. It's the employees who make the difference. Its not a one person show whatsoever," says Ervin.
As Chief, Ervin says he hopes to begin the discussions evaluating certain procedures and resource allocations.
