Bay County, Fla. -

If you've suffered from a cold recently, you could be at risk for another illness that's common this week.  Dr. Hatem Mourad from Coastal Urgent Care and Family Medicine says he's been treating a lot of laryngitis.

Dr. Mourad says you can treat laryngitis by doing the following:

  • Resting your voice
  • Not smoking
  • Limit drinking
  • Avoid breathing in harsh chemicals
  • Avoid acid reflux by eating small meals throughout the day
  • Avoid coffee and chocolate

While laryngitis normally gets better with time, Dr. Mourad recommends seeing a doctor or nurse if your voice does not go back to normal within two weeks.  He says if you have a fever of at least 101, your throat pain is severe, or your throat pain does not improve within five to seven days, you should also see a medical professional.
