Inmate Captured After Escape from Northwest Florida Reception Center

Update: Inmate Wambles back in DOC custody.


The Florida Department of Corrections is searching for an inmate who escaped Friday from the Northwest Florida Reception Center.

Department spokeswoman, Ann Howard, says they are looking for Jamie Wambles, 32. He is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes and is 6' 1" and 190 pounds. Howard says he is a non-violent offender.

Howard says they are searching for Wambles with the assistance of canine units and local law enforcement. Witnesses tell News 13 law enforcement officers are lining the roads in the area close to the prison on Highway 77.

According to the Department of Corrections web site, Wambles was sent to prison a short time ago on January 30. His release date was set for October 20, 2019. He is serving time for petit theft, 2 counts of burglary of an occupied structure or attempt, grand theft, 2 counts of trafficking in stolen property and felon with a gun, concealed weapon or ammo. The charges are all out of Jackson County.

Howard says Wambles was working with the motor pool at the prison. She says he was still being processed and waiting for his prison assignment.
