Red Cross Volunteers Preparing for Possible Shelter Openings

Posted: Updated:

Local Red Cross leadership, in coordination with Emergency Managers in Gulf, Holmes and Washington Counties, announced today that plans are being made for possible shelter openings in response to flooding.

Red Cross Logistics and Mass Care volunteers began on Friday to prepare for possible shelter openings. Emergency Managers in all area counties continue to monitor the developing situation.  In the event that shelters are needed, Emergency Management and Red Cross will announce the specific location and opening time for each shelter. Further announcements are expected later today.

According to Red Cross Director, Bob Pearce: "We are urging everyone to pay attention to local media and announcements from local governments regarding road closures and water levels in low lying areas. Avoid driving or walking through standing water. Report all incidents of flooding to law enforcement or your local Emergency Management offices. If you feel you are in immediate danger call 911. Your safety and the safety of your loved ones is your most important consideration!"
