Court records indicate that NuvaRing lawsuits pending in state and federal courts will begin going to trial this spring.
Melville, NY (PRWEB) March 06, 2013
Alonso Krangle LLP, a law firm focused on fighting for the rights of victims of harmful drug side effects, is investigating NuvaRing lawsuits on behalf of women who allegedly suffered life-threatening NuvaRing blood clots and other serious NuvaRing side effects. According to the firm, NuvaRing lawsuits currently pending in both state and federal courts will begin going to trial in the coming months. Alonso Krangle is currently offering free consultations to victims of alleged NuvaRing side effects, including:
Venous thromboembolism (blood clots)
Deep vein thrombosis
Alonso Krangle LLP is already representing alleged victims of NuvaRing side effects in a consolidated litigation now underway in New Jersey Superior Court, Bergen County. Court records indicate that Superior Court Judge Brian R. Martinotti has scheduled the litigation’s first trial for May 2013. (In Re: NuvaRing Litigation, BER-L-3081-09). Brought to market in 2001, NuvaRing is a hormonal contraceptive device that releases a combination of etonogestrel, a synthetic progestin, and the estrogen, ethinyl estradiol. The small, flexible ring is designed to be inserted into the vagina once a month, and is kept in place for three weeks. Since its launch on the market, a number of studies have found an association between NuvaRing and serious side effects, including blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and strokes. For example, research released by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011 showed that women who used NuvaRing faced a 56% increased risk of having a serious blood clot compared to those using older birth control pills. Last June, a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found that women who used combined hormonal devices, such as NuvaRing, were 2.5 to 3 times more likely to experience strokes compared to women who used other types of hormonal birth control. A study published a month earlier in the British Medical Journal found the likelihood of NuvaRing users experiencing a dangerous blood clot was 90% higher than it was for women taking combined oral contraceptives containing levonorgestrel.
Court records indicate that some 200 NuvaRing lawsuits are pending in the New Jersey litigation. Another 1,000 NuvaRing injury lawsuits have been filed in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Missouri. The Court has scheduled the first bellwether trial in the federal NuvaRing litigation for July 8, 2013. (In Re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 1964)
There is still time for alleged victims of NuvaRing side effects to seek compensation for their injuries.
