Malone, Fl -

"I started when I was 13 years old taking care of my grandfather," said Alida Ham, 19, a senior at the Malone School.

Aside from being selfless, modesty is Ham's most obvious quality.

"My dad says I do too much but to me, I do just enough to get by," said Ham.

Her father isn't the only one who think she goes above and beyond.

"She is an amazing young girl, has always been kind hearted, good hearted, and always been there for anyone," said Kristina Hodges, who is Ham's sister-in-law and the one partially responsible for making sure Ham's selfless acts don't go unnoticed.

Hodges nominated Ham for Miss Northwest Florida's "Beautiful You" award.

"Beautiful You" is Miss Northwest Florida's charity that seeks to recognize a young woman for her beauty not only on the outside, but on the inside.

"Girls like Alida are very selfless and they do so much that people don't realize," said Miss Northwest Florida Alex Watson. "We take this program instead of you know putting a crown on their head, we give them something that they can remember for the rest of their lives."

Ham is receiving a brand new prom dress and other necessities for Prom night.

"I've won hair, make up, and nails done," said Ham. The prom package will also pay for flowers and dinner.

"You just had to hear her voice and how amazed she was that she won and all that it entailed," said Hodges.

Ham has clocked more than 200 community service hours at the nearby nursing homes and holds several leadership positions at school.

When I'm serving other people its just brings me joy, because if I see a smile on their face, it's just more worth it," said Ham.

Ham will graduate high school in a few months and says she may pursue a career in cosmetology or nursing. While each are very different fields, Ham says both help people and that's what matters.
