Walton County Man Found Guilty of Sexual Battery

State Attorney Bill Eddins announced today that a Walton County Jury found Brandon Deshun Tate guilty of Sexual Battery on a victim under 12 years of age and of violating the law for Protection of Minors from Obscenity. Circuit Judge Deedee Costello immediately sentenced Tate to a mandatory term of life in prison.

The victim, a 12 year-old child testified at trial that Tate had sexually molested her for a number of years when she was 11 years of age and younger. Two other children under 12 years of age also testified that Tate had touched them while they were staying the night in his house. In addition to the life sentence, Tate received five years in prison for the obscenity charge and was designated as a sexual predator.

The investigation and arrest was conducted by Investigators Donna Shank and Breezy Adkinson with the Walton County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Children's Advocacy Center. Assistant State Attorney Jennifer A. Lieb prosecuted the case.
