Wewahitchka Woman Convicted of Shooting Her Boyfriend in the Face

A Gulf County jury convicted Esther Jean Wilson on Wednesday of shooting her boyfriend.

Assistant State Attorney Bob Pell showed jurors that Wilson, 53, of 775 N. Highway 71, Wewahitchka, shot her boyfriend, Walter L. Wright Jr., in the face during an argument on Feb. 5, 2012. Pell had the challenge of convicting Wilson without Wright's cooperation. Wright refused to testify.

Jurors found Wilson guilty as charged of aggravated battery with a firearm with great bodily harm, a first-degree felony punishable by life in prison. Circuit Judge Shonna Gay scheduled sentencing for April 25.
