The University of Florida/IFAS Bay County Extension will offer a free class about preserving fresh fruits and vegetables as well as meat, poultry, game and fish. The class will help ensure quality foods by controlling microorganisms, enzymes, oxygen and moisture loss in food.
Participants will learn the importance of preserving food and how food preservation methods work, the difference between low acid and high acid foods, safe and unsafe canning methods, selecting the right canning equipment and basic canning. The class will be held Wednesday, April 17 and again on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Extension Office, located at 2728 E. 14th St. Registration is from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
