Some Schools Will See New Principals Next Year

Posted: Updated:

Some Bay District Schools will see some new leadership next school year. The superintendent is moving principals around to facilitate some positive change.

It's not new to the district to move principals to different schools, however, now some of the principals maybe eligible for a ten thousand dollar bonus if they move from a high performing school to a lower performing school.

"Sometimes you just have to kick start some changes and we think this is going to light a fire and get people excited and that's what we want to do. We want to make all of our schools great and sometimes you just have to make some changes to inspire and to motivate and this is what we're trying to do," says Superintendent Bill Husfelt.

Next school year, Husfelt has chosen new principals for Oakland Terrace, Oscar Patterson and Hiland Park elementary schools, two of which may bring a ten thousand dollar bonus attached to the job.

Deerpoint Elementary's principal Lendy Willis will take on Oakland Terrace. Hiland Park's principal Patti Fowler will move to Oscar Patterson, who's principal Angela Hutchinson will take Fowler's spot at Hiland park. It's a transition Fowler describes as an honor.

"I feel honored that the superintendent has selected me...to go to Patterson and to make a change. I feel that he has selected me because of my qualifications and what a compliment that is," says Fowler.

During her four years at Hiland Park, Fowler says she has grown to love the school, but she is excited to open a new door at Oscar Patterson.

"I have high hopes that I will be able to make some positive changes for Oscar Patterson. There's a lot of good things I'm sure going on right now at Patterson. I will be able to get in, see what's working, see what needs to be tweaked and make a plan of action," says Fowler.

Husfelt says there may also be changes at the district level.
