Child Mauled by Dogs in Callaway

UPDATE: The Bay County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in reference to a dog bite this afternoon at about 2:26 p.m. to 6213 Kelly Court in Callaway.

When deputies arrived, the victim — a 7 year old child — appeared to have been mauled by at least one dog. Witnesses at the home where the victim lived stated there were two dogs near the child when they came out of the home to find he had been attacked. They chased the two dogs back to their yard and began to render aid to the child. According to the owner, the dogs are bulldogs and weigh from 60 to 70 pounds.

EMS has taken the child to a local hospital in critical condition. The two dogs believed involved in the attack are currently being held by Bay County Animal Control. The owner of the dogs is being questioned by investigators with the Bay County Sheriff's Office. The investigation is ongoing and charges are possible.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office says that a 7-year-old child was mauled and bitten by a pit bull this afternoon in the Callaway area.

Major Tommy Ford of the BCSO  says that the child was bitten multiple times and transported to an area hospital and is in critical condition and in emergency surgery.
