If you're looking for a new opportunity and think teaching could be for you, Gulf Coast State College has a unique program to consider.
The Educator Preparation Institute held a forum Tuesday evening for college graduates interested in teaching grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The state approved certification program is for those who already have a bachelor's degree and are looking for a second or even third career.
The forum was fairly packed, which didn't surprise program directors.
"We have a lot of career changers, people that have decided that they wanted to be a teacher earlier in life and didn't pursue that for some reason," said Teresa Salter, Assistant Academic Program Coordinator.
"We'll take an engineer from the Navy Base as an example. All of that rich experience translates in to wonderful information that they're able to share if they want to become teachers once they retire," said Patricia Schenck, Academic Program Coordinator.
Students can apply and begin taking courses in the summer, fall, or spring and complete the program in as little as six months.
