15 teams from several different colleges participated in this year's Invitational, which started with pool play and finished with a single elimination play-off.
Gulf Coast head coach Kyle Peck says sand volleyball gives players a chance to hone their skills and improve their game.
"Beach volleyball you can play into your 30's, 40's, 50's, where indoor your career is kind of over early because of the pounding it takes on your body," said Peck Saturday. "It develops the whole game. Some of the girls who don't get to pass or play defense indoors get to develop their skills out here. It's a good month, month and a half we get out of the gym and into the sand."
