School Choice Enrollment Begins for Bay District Schools

Parents who wish to enroll students in a school out of their assigned school zone will have the opportunity to complete a School Choice Application beginning Monday, April 15, 2013 at 7:30 a.m. The application window closes on May 14, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. All applications will be taken through the school district website at www.bay.k12.fl.us/schoolchoice, which is open 24 hours a day.

Parents who do not have a computer or internet access at home may receive assistance at their home zoned schools. Computer access is also available at public libraries. Another resource is the School Choice office where a computer will be available for parents to complete applications. It is located in room 322 in the Bay District Schools administrative building at 1311 Balboa Avenue, which is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

*Information for Students Who Attend Rezoned Schools*

The Bay District School Board has approved zoning changes for the following schools: Deane Bozeman School (elementary grades only), and Deer Point, Southport, Tommy Smith and Waller Elementary Schools. This may change a student currently assigned school to a different school for next school year. The zoning changes will be effective starting in the 2013-2014 school year. Parents can go to the home page, www.bay.k12.fl.us, to check the correct school zone for next year by clicking on the 2013-2014 School Zones icon and entering the home address.

Parents of students who have been rezoned to a different school for next school year may keep their students at the school they are currently attending. However, they must complete a School Choice Application during this open enrollment period. Because these students will be attending out-of-zone next school year, transportation must be provided by the parents if they choose to have the students remain enrolled in the current school.

For students who were approved to attend out-of-zone for the current school year (2012-2013) but are now assigned to their current school due to rezoning, a School Choice application is not needed for next school year.
