Suspect Identified In Jackson County Murder

Posted: Updated:

The search is on in Jackson County for the man suspected of murdering his girlfriend. The Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and other agencies spent most of Sunday at the scene in Greenwood.

Authorities are looking for a man in his late 30's named Andrew Johnson.

Sheriff Lou Roberts says his girlfriend called 911 just before 3:30 Sunday morning and told a dispatcher Johnson was threatening her.

"During the time that the officer was in route, it sounded as if the altercation was escalating. You could hear some screaming going on and shouting going on," said Roberts.

Deputies rushed to the mobile home the couple shared just a few miles east of the town of Greenwood. When they got there, they found the victim inside suffering from unspecified injuries. She later died from those injuries.

No one else was at the residence when deputies arrived.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding Johnson. They say he has a criminal history and should be considered armed and dangerous.

"We feel like he is very likely responsible, and if we do encounter him, we are going to treat him as if he is armed and dangerous until we know otherwise," said Roberts.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Johnson is asked to call JCSO at (850) 482-9648, or you can leave an anonymous tip with CrimeStoppers at (850) 526-5000.
