Joey McCarthy, a Gulf Coast pitcher, welcomed in his dad Jim this weekend. Jim is a police officer in Newton, which borders Boston, and was there when the Boston Bombings happened on Monday.
"Everything was surreal," he said. "When you hear multiple explosions, I looked at the trooper, and he looked back at me, and we kind of looked at each other saying did he just say what we thought he said? When the radio continued on, the call for ambulance, the call for help, we knew there were problems. The radio kept going, taking the men and heading them in other directions."
McCarthy said his other son was running in the marathon, and escaped without injury. He said last week's events have put things in perspective for him, and he's glad he got to see Joey pitch.
