Bay County Celebrates 100 Years

Posted: Updated:

Officials and members of the community came out to celebrate the formation of Bay County on April 24, 1913.  The celebration was held at the historic McKenzie house in downtown Panama City.  In 1913, Governor Park Tramell signed legislation to put into motion the formation of Bay County.

Since then, Bay County has grown to a population of over 171,000 people.  ""I can just think back when I was I've got my 50th year class reunion coming up next this weekend and when I think about what it looked like when I graduated from bay high and what it looks like now it's just like night and day except for the older areas in Panama City," Commissioner  Mike Nelson said.

In keeping with the theme "A proud past and a bright future" leaders feel it's important for residents to know the history of where they live.  "It's taken a long time to get us where we are but as we move forward I see exciting things coming to Bay County," Commissioner Bill Dozier said.
