A North Carolina man suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon when his bicycle crashed into an SUV in Walton County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the scene at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Rainbow Drive at 3:06 p.m.

The FHP said James Chris Alderson of Raleigh was eastbound in the bicycle lane when he suddenly turned left into the path of a 2012 Dodge Journey driven by William Redinger of Niceville.

The front of Redinger's vehicle struck the left side of the bicycle and Alderson, 63, was ejected onto the north shoulder of the road, the FHP said.

Alderson was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with unspecified injuries.
