Long Time Gulf World Resident "Floater" Euthanized

Posted: Updated:

Gulf World Marine Park has announced the death of Floater, a California sea lion and long time resident of the Panama City Beach attraction.

Park officials said Floater was euthanized late Saturday afternoon due to progressive paralysis caused by intervertebral disk disease, a common condition in older sea lions.

Floater arrived at Gulf World in 1985 from Sea World Orlando.  She was one of the first animals that Ron Hardy and Brad Miller acquired when they originally purchased the park, officials said.

Floater was 30 years old.
