Good news was the order of the day Tuesday night as Bay County republicans celebrated what they consider success stories across the state. The Bay County Republican Party hosted its annual Lincoln Day Dinner at Edgewater Beach Resort.
Several influential republican leaders spoke, including Governor Rick Scott who took the stage in front of a sold out crowd.
The governor talked about the work that's left to do in the state but says Florida is headed in the right direction.
Since he took office, the unemployment rate dropped below the nation's average. The state also invested tax dollars into programs which helped create record tourism numbers.
Most recently, Scott said he's excited the legislature approved a plan to give teachers a pay raise.
"Who doesn't want to live in Florida? I mean this is a great. Look at our weather. Look at our beaches. Look at the people. Look at our universities, our state colleges. No income tax, low business tax," said Governor Scott.
Congressman Steve Southerland emceed Tuesday's event. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was the keynote speaker.
The Lincoln Day Dinner is one of the Republican Party's largest fundraisers each year.
