The runway at the old Panama City Bay County International airport became exactly that this morning, a runway, but not for airplanes.
Dedicated runners hit the tarmac for the "Runway 5K Run" and kids'" One Mile Fun Run.
It was sponsored by the parent teacher organization of University Academy to raise money for playground equipment.
Beginning next year the school will be located at the old airport property.
One of the runners in today's race also participated in last month's ill-fated Boston marathon.
"It's really hard when you have something happen in a race or you have a bad race or just a bad event you just gotta dig deep and you really need to think about you're out there because you love it and you love the sport you love to get healthy and I think that is what compelled me to get out here today," says Meadows.
Meadows was less than half a mile from the finish line in Boston, when the two explosions put a tragic end to that race.
