The Panama City Beach Pirates are gearing up for a new season, one that kicks off on Saturday at home. The Pirates are in for a true test right off the bat, as they face Orlando City, a team that made it to the Semi-Finals of the Premiere Development League Championships. The Pirates play Wednesday in a friendly, a match that head coach Greg DeVito says he plans on using to measure where his guys are at, but says there's no one else he'd rather open up the year with.
"Every team wants to come out and play the best straightaway," said Coach DeVito. "That will give us a good indication of where we stand. If we win, we're going to be happy with ourselves, and we'll work to win the next one. That's what we're looking for right now is to prepare well and hopefully that leads to good results. These players are trying to do the same thing the last team did, but at the same time, we're looking to make things better. I think this group is a very special group, and I think they have a lot of potential this year."
