A Texas visitor to Panama City Beach died this afternoon after he was pulled from the Gulf of Mexico behind the Summit Condominiums on Thomas Drive.
According to the Panama City Beach Police Department, 74-year-old Phil Norris Long of Richardson, Texas, was unresponsive and not breathing and found face down floating in the Gulf of Mexico behind the Summit. Long was pulled from the water by surrounding bystanders.
Once on the beach, officers performed CPR until Fire Rescue and EMS personnel arrived. Mr. Long was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center and pronounced dead by the treating physician. The cause of death will be determined at a later date by the medical examiner's office. Yellow flags were flying at the time of the incident.
