Posted: Updated:

On June 17, 2013, at approximately 12:30 hours, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at the Sunoco gas Station located on Hwy 71 south in Marianna.  Upon arrival it was determined that several shots had been fired into a vehicle and one motorcyclist had been struck by the vehicle.

Investigators determined that the altercation stemmed from a road rage incident that had previously occurred on Interstate 10 between a motorist and three motorcyclists. Investigators have worked since that date interviewing witnesses and collecting and reviewing evidence to determine the facts of the incident.

On June 24, 2013, Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office obtained an Arrest Warrant for Kevin Denkevitz of Sanford, North Carolina for the charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.  An additional Arrest Warrant was obtained by the Sheriff's Office for Craig Mathew Frederickson of Maple Hill, North Carolina for the charges of Burglary of an Occupied Conveyance with Battery and Criminal Mischief greater than $200.00.

On June 25, 2013, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Kevin Denkevitz and Craig Frederickson turned themselves in at the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.  Denkevitz and Frederickson were arrested on the above mentioned warrants and housed in the Jackson County Jail to await First Appearances.

ORIGINAL STORY ON JUNE 17TH, 2013

A road rage incident just West of Marianna in Jackson County ended up as a shooting at a truck stop. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the road rage and shooting incident happened between a group of three motorcyclists who were traveling together and a family in a pick-up truck.

It happened around lunchtime Monday about 30 to 50 miles West of the Interstate 10 Exit at Highway 71 just South of Marianna.

"There's some indication that someone tried to pass someone, maybe cut them off too quick, maybe the weather was causing spray to get on the motorcycles," said Sheriff Lou Roberts

The two groups coincidentally ended up at the same gas station at about the same time. Sheriff Roberts said that's when things re-escalated.

Investigators believe one motorcyclist began firing multiple shots at the truck driver while he was still in the vehicle with his family. The truck driver then pushed the motorcyclists into a fence with his pick up.

The motorcyclist was taken to a Bay County hospital with severe injuries.

Investigators continue to talk to witnesses and the four drivers involved. No one was shot Monday afternoon. Also, no one has been arrested, but the incident remains under investigation.
