Train Strikes Disabled Car In DeFuniak Springs

Posted: Updated:

No one was injured when a car stalled in the worst possible place – on a DeFuniak Springs railroad track as a train approached.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it happened just before 5:30 Saturday morning at the crossing at State Road 285 and U.S. Highway 90.

The FHP said the driver and passengers in the Nissan Altima were able to get out of the disabled car but there wasn't enough time to notify the train conductor of the track obstruction.

The FHP listed the car as a total loss; the locomotive was not damaged.
