Eastern Shipbuilding Group presented two checks to the American Cancer Society Wednesday morning.
The incorporation's annual golf tournament raised $16,500 this year. The president of Eastern Shipbuilding agreed to match the dollar amount for a total donation of $33,000 to the American Cancer Society.
They wanted to contribute to the fight against cancer in honor of longtime coworker Fred Clayton, who died from cancer.
"He was an honest hard working, country boy, country man, did an honest days work for as long as we've known him, and we honor his memory," said Brian D'Isernia, President of Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
It's the single largest donation to the American Cancer Society for the seven county region.
The money will be used for research to find a cure for cancer and create more birthdays.
