This week, the Rutherford Ram football team is hosting a skills camp for area youth. The camp is a non contact instructional camp that aims to teach proper techniques skills training conditioning a positive attitude and good sportsmanship.
The camp runs until Thursday and is for youth ages 8-14. It begins each day at 12:30 and runs until 4:00 each day. Anyone interested can participate, and even though the camp started Monday, campers can join in on any day.
Rutherford Head Coach Alvin Dempsey said one of the benefits of the camp is that some Ram football players are helping out, which gives the younger guys a chance to interact with the guys they see play on Friday night.
"One thing I think they take away from the camp is seeing those guys they see in the paper and on television or on the news," he said Monday. "They also spend time with those guys wanting to model those guys, and three, actually learning something about the game that they can take with them."
