Carol Ann Whitehurst started as the new principal of Deer Point Elementary School on July 1, 2013, moving up from assistant principal at Hiland Park Elementary School.

Her first teaching position in Bay County was at Bay High School in 1993 where she remained for 10 years. She taught a variety of sciences and English, and was trained as an instructor of Cambridge AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) and Advanced Placement courses. Beginning in 2004, she took her first administrative assignment as assistant principal at J.R. Arnold High School followed by administrative duties at Tommy Smith and Hiland Park Elementary Schools.

Whitehurst holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida where she also took post graduate science courses. She has a master's degree in Education Leadership from Florida State University. She also completed coursework at Harvard University on the topic of Professional Learning Communities.

Amy Harvey served as assistant administrator for the past two years at Northside Elementary School and was promoted to principal of the school beginning this school year.

Prior to her administrative assignments, Harvey served as a classroom teacher at Lynn Haven Elementary and Jinks Middle Schools. During that time she earned certifications to be a peer trainer and administrator of curriculum resources, assessment programs and classroom technology integration.

She is a graduate of Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State University and completed a master's degree in Educational Leadership at the University of West Florida.
