St. Joe Foundation Donates $24,000 to Bay Education Foundation

Posted: Updated:

The St. Joe Community Foundation donated $24,300 to the Bay Education Foundation to provide Take Stock in Children scholarships for Bay County students.  St. Joe Foundation Board Member Lewis Howell presented the check to Leon Walters, presiding officer at the Bay Education Foundation's board meeting on July 17, 2013.

"We are long-time supporters of the Bay Education Foundation, "said Howell, who previously served as a board member.  "In fact, we were the first member of the President's Club and have supported Take Stock in Children every year we had funds available."

Take Stock students are selected during the sixth grade and begin a lengthy and intense partnership with the Bay Education Foundation, lasting from eight to ten years as students move through high school and on to post-secondary education.

"We can get a match for these dollars, "said Walters, Bay Education Foundation Vice-President.  "We'll buy the scholarships now, and they will be reserved for the next group of Take Stock scholars that we recruit. We couldn't do this program without our donors."

The St. Joe Community Foundation is continuing a long tradition of supporting the Take Stock in Children program and other initiatives of the Bay Education Foundation.  Since the St. Joe Foundation began operating, it has donated more than $600,000 to promote excellence in education in Bay County.
